The Groundwork Foundation was recently honored to be featured on News 3 Las Vegas, highlighting the organization’s growing impact through Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu outreach and community service.
The segment focused on the Foundation’s mission to empower youth and underserved communities through martial arts, mentorship, and access to training resources. By collecting and distributing lightly used Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu uniforms (gis), hosting seminars, and supporting local academies around the world, the Groundwork Foundation continues to build opportunities for young people who might otherwise never have access to the sport.
During the feature, viewers were introduced to the heart of the organization’s work: connecting the global Jiu-Jitsu community with communities in need. From youth programs in the United States to outreach efforts across Latin America and Southeast Asia, the Foundation believes that Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu can be a powerful vehicle for confidence, discipline, and life-changing mentorship.
Co-Founder Alexa Yanes shared how the idea for the Foundation grew from years of teaching and traveling within the Jiu-Jitsu community.
“Jiu-Jitsu changed my life. The Groundwork Foundation exists to make sure more kids around the world get the same opportunity to learn, grow, and believe in themselves.”
The News 3 feature also highlighted how the broader Jiu-Jitsu community continues to rally behind the mission. Through donation drives at tournaments, seminars hosted by world-class athletes, and partnerships with academies, supporters help ensure that training gear and resources reach those who need them most.
As the organization continues expanding its outreach efforts—including upcoming international initiatives and community programs—the recognition from News 3 Las Vegas represents an important milestone in spreading awareness about the Foundation’s work.
The Groundwork Foundation invites members of the martial arts community and supporters everywhere to get involved.
