During our time in Cebu City, The Groundwork Foundation had the opportunity to host a jiu-jitsu seminar at Strive CCA, arranged in collaboration with head instructor Lem Maglinte. The seminar brought together a strong and diverse group of practitioners from across the region, with approximately 50 attendees on the mats.
The training focused on open guard and spider guard mechanics, effective leg attack entries, and strategic options from closed guard. Our goal was to share concepts that athletes could immediately apply to their own games, while emphasizing efficiency, control, and long-term development.
We were also honored by the presence of several visiting black belts, including Norman Go, whose participation added to the depth of knowledge and collaborative atmosphere of the seminar. The energy, technical level, and openness of the Cebu jiu-jitsu community were evident throughout the session.
We’re grateful to Lem Maglinte and the entire Strive CCA team for the warm welcome and for continuing to build a strong, community-driven jiu-jitsu culture in Cebu. Experiences like this reinforce our belief in the power of shared learning and partnership as we work to grow the sport worldwide.
